Edward Mapplethorpe est plutôt un artiste qu’un photographe malgré le fait que son medium est photographique. Ayant abandonné l’appareil photographique et la chambre noire, Mapplethorpe continue à défier la photographie noir et blanc traditionnelle. Pour sa nouvelle série des œuvres, intitulée "The Variations", il emploie le processus technique «Chromoskedasic», pendant lequel il peint des produits chimique sur le papier photographique noir et blanc pour créer des œuvres unique qui sont généreux et plein de couleur.

Né en 1960 Mapplethorpe vit et travaille à New York. En 2004 il a été le récipiendaire du prix de la fondation de Henry Buhl.

Edward Mapplethorpe is more of an artist than a photographer even though his medium is photographic. Having abandoned the use of a camera and the darkroom, Mapplethorpe continues to overtly challenge conventional black and white photography. In his latest series of works entitled "The Variations" he has worked with a technical process called Chromoskedasic, where colorless chemicals are painted directly onto black and white photographic paper to create rich, colorful unique pieces of abstract photography.

Born in New York City in 1960 Mapplethorpe continues to live and work in New York. In 2004 he was the recipient of the Henry Buhl Foundation Prize.
