I'll Be Your Mirror

from March 19th until May 23rd 2015

Dubner Moderne is pleased to announce the exhibition,

I'll be your Mirror

a two artist show of works by Isca Greenfield-Sanders and Sebastian Blanck. The exhibition will be on view from March 20th through May 23rd 2015 with the vernissage on Thursday March 19th in the presence of the artists.

With scenes of children playing in the waves at the beach, a father leading his sons onto a dock and a boat racing across the water, I'll Be Your Mirror at Dubner Moderne is an exhibition that is intimate, evocative and nostalgic of memories past. In fact the paintings presented almost seemingly come straight from a family photo album and in some ways this is true, for the artists Sebastian Blanck and Isca Greenfield-Sanders are husband and wife. Blanck, whose works are delicate stretched paper collages and monoprints, affectionately portrays his family in holiday activities that are familiar and personal, whereas Greenfield-Sanders' mixed media paintings find their original inspiration in old, vintage photographic slides, from the 1950's and 60's, that the artist recovered in flea markets and brocantes.

The exhibition title I'll Be Your Mirror was chosen with reference to the song by Lou Reed as he was a longtime friend of the artists and had read the song at their wedding 11 years ago. Although their artistic styles are distinct and unique the work of Greenfield-Sanders and Blanck clearly shares a mutual poetic spirit and relationship to which Reed alludes.

Born in 1976, Sebastian Blanck graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design, was a visiting artist at the prestigious American Academy of Rome and in addition to being a visual artist he is a singer-songwriter who released his debut album Alibi Coast in 2010.

Born in 1978 and a graduate of Brown University Isca Greenfield-Sanders' paintings are part of museum collections including the Guggenheim Museum, the Brooklyn Museum and the Museum Morsbroich in Leverkusen amongst others.
